Welcome!
These Terms of Use explain your rights and responsibilities when using The DM's Familiar RPG worldbuilding tools. We've written this in plain language because we believe legal documents shouldn't require an Arcana check to understand.
The Service
The DM's Familiar provides tools to help Game Masters create NPCs and (SoonTM) other worldbuilding elements for their tabletop RPG campaigns. The service includes:
- NPC generation with AI-powered descriptions (paid accounts)
- Basic NPC generation with dice rolls (free accounts)
- Storage for your created content
Account Types and Limits
- Free accounts get unlimited Random NPC generation (without AI enhancements) and storage for up to 5 NPCs
- Paid accounts ($10.00 USD/month plus applicable taxes) get:
- Unlimited Random Generations of NPCs
- 100 AI-powered NPC descriptions per month
- Storage for up to 100 NPCs
- Future features may be included in the paid plan, or in different subscription plans at our discretion.
A comment from thatDeveloperDad: What I mean here, is that I've got a TON of ideas for more features, and i intend for most of them to fit within the $10.00 / month subscription.
I MIGHT come up with something that costs WAY MORE to provide, so if I do, I might have to put that behind a different subscription.
Your Content
- You own everything you create using our service
- We won't share your creations with other users without your permission
- We won't use your creations for marketing or research & development purposes without your explicit permission.
- You can use your created content however you want, including in commercial works.
- We'll store your content as long as your account is active.
- For inactive accounts, we may archive content and send it to your registered email address after a period of time.
- Due to the random nature of NPC Generation with this system, similar NPCs may be generated from time to time.
In plain language: I won't use what you create to train more advanced models without your permission. That's not even in my distant future plans.

- We host with industry leading cloud service providers to ensure optimal stability and high uptime.
- For extended Product outages, we may extend your billing period to compensate for the lost days.

Payment and Refunds
- Subscriptions are billed monthly through LemonSqueezy.
- Cancellations take effect at the end of your billing period.
- We don't provide mid-cycle refunds on the monthly plan.
- In exceptional cases, we may issue prorated refunds based on:
- Resources used
- Time remaining
- Processing fees
Data and Privacy
- We follow applicable US privacy laws and make best effort to comply with EU Privacy regulations.
- Payment processing is handled by LemonSqueezy; a division of Stripe.
- Personally Identifying Information (PII) is stored securely in Microsoft Entra.
- See our Privacy Policy for detailed information.
More plain language from thatDeveloperDad: I don't like getting spammed, so I won't do it to you. I won't sell your contact info to anyone, either.
As far as keeping your personal data secure, I'm using Microsoft's services to store your identity information, and they're pretty good at making sure that what you entrust to me stays between us. Same thing goes for your Payment information. I'm using LemonSquuezy as my "Merchant of Record," and they're WAY BETTER at keeping things safe, and private, and secure than I am all on my own. (I don't even SEE your payment information when you purchase a subscription.)
Acceptable Use
- Access is currently limited to our web interface.
- Automated or script-based access or scraping are prohibited.
- Keep your login credentials secure.
- We reserve the right to suspend accounts for abuse.
Changes to Terms
